FROM SELF-IMPROVEMENT TO SELF-NURTURING
From the time we’re young, we’re taught that life is about becoming better. We strive to improve our grades, our careers, our relationships, our health, and even our spirituality. The message is subtle but persistent: there is always another version of ourselves we should become.
While growth is a natural part of life, the pursuit of self-improvement often begins with an unspoken assumption—that something is wrong with us. We ask, “How can I fix myself?” instead of “How can I care for myself?” Over time, many of us begin to see ourselves not as whole human beings navigating life’s challenges, but as problems that constantly need solving.
This week, Bev and Paul invite us to consider a radically different question:
What if nothing is wrong with you?
That doesn’t mean denying pain, illness, stress, grief, or struggle. These experiences are real and deserve care and attention. But perhaps there is a difference between experiencing difficult circumstances and believing that we ourselves are somehow broken because of them.
What if healing doesn’t begin with fixing ourselves, but with nurturing ourselves?
A gardener doesn’t improve a flower by criticizing it. The flower grows because it is given sunlight, water, nourishment, and time. Human beings may not be so different. Instead of constantly asking, “How do I become a better person?” perhaps we might ask, “What do I need today to support the life already within me?”
This shift in perspective lies at the heart of Bio-Touch. When someone comes for a session, they are never treated as a problem to solve. There is no judgment, no diagnosis, and no attempt to force the body to heal. There is simply a caring human being offering another human being gentle touch. Bio-Touch doesn’t assume the body is broken; it trusts that the body possesses an innate ability to respond when given care, support, and a safe environment.
Perhaps this is why one of the Foundation’s guiding principles is “There shall be no judgment of another.” If we can approach another person without judgment, can we learn to offer ourselves that same compassion? How often do we become our own harshest critics, believing we must constantly earn our worth through improvement?
Maybe healing isn’t about becoming someone new. Maybe it’s about remembering that beneath the symptoms, the stress, the fear, and the endless pressure to “be better,” our humanity has never been diminished.
Join Bev and Paul as they explore the possibility that one of the greatest acts of healing may not be fixing ourselves at all—but nurturing the wholeness that has always been there, waiting to be acknowledged with kindness, acceptance, and simple caring touch.
